Pathways to Empowerment

Career Prep & Employment

At PEP, our Employment and Career Prep programs focus on pride, purpose, and possibility. Members gain real-world experience through partnerships with business like Goodwill where they perform tasks like sorting clothing, and opportunities at PEP where they learn to clean and practice office skills. For those not ready for group employment, Career Prep builds essential skills in math, reading, computer use, and social-emotional learning. Members are paid hourly and receive monthly paychecks, boosting their sense of accomplishment. With support from local businesses and volunteers, we create pathways to employment and independence.

Fostering Independence through Everyday Confidence

Life Skills

At PEP, life skills are woven into every experience, helping members build confidence, independence, and stronger connections both at home and in the community. Through fun, structured activities like games, role-play, and group discussions, members learn how to communicate clearly, navigate social situations, and build meaningful relationships. Community outings from grocery stores to golf lessons offer hands-on experiences that support real-world learning and connection. In adaptive fitness classes, members participate at their own pace through yoga, walking, games, and gym workouts, gaining motivation and energy alongside peers and volunteers. In the kitchen, members build independence as they learn to use appliances, prepare meals, and safely handle food all while reinforcing responsibility and healthy habits. Across all areas, life skills are taught with patience and purpose, helping each person move toward greater autonomy and self-worth.

Strengthening Communication through Reading, Writing, & Expression

Literacy

PEP’s Literacy Program offers members a comprehensive approach to communication and learning through reading, writing, American Sign Language (ASL), and computer skills. In our Literacy Lab, members use adaptive digital tools and hands-on activities to develop reading, writing, comprehension, and real-world skills, supported by partnerships with local libraries. The Sign Language program helps members build communication and fine motor skills while fostering empathy and inclusivity, allowing them to connect meaningfully with peers and the ASL community. Meanwhile, the Computer Lab teaches essential digital literacy from basic typing to safe internet use, empowering members to navigate technology confidently for personal and professional growth. Together, these programs nurture independence, confidence, and connection in everyday life.

Exploring STEM through Discovery & the PEP Garden

Academic Activities

PEP’s Academic Activities combine hands-on learning in STEM and gardening to spark curiosity and build confidence. In our STEM program, members explore science, technology, engineering, and math concepts through projects like testing circuits and interactive experiments on topics like anatomy and weather. These activities promote critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity, helping members discover what they’re capable of. Our PEP Gardening program offers a sensory-rich experience where members plant, care for, and harvest fresh produce in a community garden designed with expert guidance. Gardening fosters life skills, healthy habits, responsibility, and pride, while connecting directly to our cooking program. Together, these programs nurture academic success, independence, and personal growth in a supportive, engaging environment.
